Hello everyone

Just a quick note to let you all know I've posted a blog about the lessons I learned whilst making Plague Inc: The Board Game as well as sharing various bits of data and insights. (I'll be doing a few other ones on the manufacturing, shipping and retail in the future)

It isn't a post mortem as it is still alive - maybe a vivisection...

If you are thinking about doing your own Kickstarter / making your own board game at some point - you might find it useful. Alternatively, you may just want to see the sausage being made!

Stay healthy and I hope some of you find it interesting

Review roundup and new production run!
over 8 years ago – Wed, Jun 14, 2017 at 12:26:21 AM

Hello Ailing Acolytes,

With the retail launch of Plague Inc: The Board Game we’ve started to see the wider world pick it up and share their thoughts, which is amazing, exciting and terrifying all at once! I wanted to share with you some of the lovely things the folk of Geek & Sundry, Ars Technica, The Guardian, The Dice Tower and more are saying about the game you helped me make:

“The game just looks great. From your player mat being a microscope slide image of your disease, to the blood splattered Death Die, the visual design is perfectly executed...I absolutely recommend this game.”
Geek & Sundry

“It deftly weaves simple elements together to generate meaningful decisions on every turn, and it’s straightforward enough that I’d happily introduce it to newer gamers.”
Ars Technica

“While developing and spreading a disease may seem a tad morbid, it makes for a surprisingly enjoyable, intelligent experience that also works as a superb single-player game”
The Guardian

“I’ll tell you two things: One the game is good and two, it really does feel like the app… Dice Tower judgement: Excellent!”
The Dice Tower

“There’s a fantastic theme running through the game, and the challenge of getting your fledgling little illness and turning it into (quite literally) a world beater never gets boring.”
The Gaming Review

“We all loved it and we've played it multiple times… We genuinely all enjoyed it equally - aged 8, 23 or 45. Ndemic have done an excellent job.”
The Brick Castle

Check out Plague Inc: The Board Game over on Board Game Geek for more reviews, and while you’re there, please consider leaving a review of your own. Every single review helps strengthen the long term health of the game, and I have loads of ideas for expansions that I need your help to bring to life!

New stock incoming!

I also wanted to take a moment to share some exciting news: the second production run of the board game is now under way! New stock should be arriving in the US, UK and Canada in a couple of months so let your local game store - or any lagging friends/family - know if they haven’t already got copies on their shelves! If you need somewhere to usher a potential Plague Inc. player then you can share this link: www.plagueinc.com/gettheboardgame

Beyond the new production run there’s another treat on the immediate horizon: an in depth blog post series that I’ve been working on with some behind-the-scenes insight on the board game and how it was made. I should have this ready very soon so keep an eye out!

In the meantime, stay healthy!

The Backer verdict on our Kickstarter project is here
almost 9 years ago – Fri, May 26, 2017 at 01:10:55 AM

Hello Contaminated Companions!

I think it is really important for backers to be able to 'pass judgement' and give feedback on Kickstarter projects. So a few weeks ago - we asked for your opinion on the Plague Inc: The Board Game Kickstarter campaign. Now the results are in!

*drumroll*
*drumroll*

Almost a thousand people gave their verdict and the results were overwhelmingly positive (I'm so proud of this although it did make it hard to make interesting graphs :P ) . Some of the highlights were:

  • 99% of backers are pleased that they backed Plague Inc: The Board Game
  • 99% of backers thought our communication during the Kickstarter campaign was ‘good’ or ‘really good’
  • 99% of backers would back a Kickstarter by us again

Check out our infectious infographic for more info (!) and stats!

Make sure you look at this properly - it took a long time to make :P

Thanks you everyone who took part! Regardless of if you did or not, please continue to let me know how you’re getting on with your game and recommend it to your friends!

Kickstarter campaign feedback and retail update
almost 9 years ago – Thu, Apr 27, 2017 at 10:02:30 PM

Hello Perfect Prions!

The board game is now on sale across the UK and the US, and can be picked up either via Amazon or from your FLGS (that’s Friendly Local Game Store, for the uninitiated!). It’s time for us to take a step back after the hectic release period and look at just how everything has gone up to this point.

What did you think of our Kickstarter campaign?

Firstly - I want to get your opinion on how our Kickstarter campaign went. Feedback from the community has always been a hugely important aspect of bringing the board game to life for me, so think of this as you giving me a report card so I know what went well and what you might want done differently in the future.

Give us your verdict here!

The retail report

Things are going incredibly well with the retail launch so far - we sold out of almost all our stock within the first week! The majority of our first production run went to the US with smaller amounts going to the UK and Canada and it’s been really exciting to discover how selling goods to various distributors and Amazon works.

Initial feedback from players has been overwhelmingly positive which also makes a huge difference. If you haven’t already, please give us a review over on Board Game Geek - every review helps!

(If you don't like the game - you can send me feedback on what changes you would like to see in an expansion here [email protected])

Future plans

Right now I’m planning our second wave of production and beyond that I’m also looking at options for wider foreign language distribution in Europe. This is something I’d really love to do, so I’m hoping it’s possible!

Going forward, I'm also working on a Kickstarter blog / post-mortem summing up how everything went and lessons learnt, so look forward to that!

In the meantime: stay healthy!

James

P.S. Once you have played the game - please consider rating it over at Board Game Geek here. Word of mouth is incredibly important for the long term success of the game (and future expansion packs) and we can't do it without you!

Patient Zeros* assemble - I need your help!

Hello Virulent Vectors

The game is beginning to ooze out into the retail market now in the US and UK now which an extremely exciting / nervous time for me. (If the game does well - I get to make lots of new expansions for the game!) It is available now on Amazon and will available for your local board game shop to stock in the next week.

Help me by reviewing the game on Amazon

Reviews on Amazon are mega important - I would really appreciate it if you could head over to Amazon here (www.plagueinc.com/gettheboardgame) and leave us a review. Every single review counts.

If you are really keen - then you can also rate the game over at BGG here which is the main source of board game rankings on the web and can really help with word of mouth.

(If you don't like the game - you can send me feedback on what changes you would like to see in an expansion here [email protected])

This looks like a cool game, I wonder where I can buy it...

Infect your friends!

The other big thing you can do is tell your friends about the game / get them to play it. Word of mouth is the most powerful transmission method. You can also tell your local game store about Plague Inc: The Board Game.

Thanks for your support - stay healthy and I'll be in touch soon to let you all know how the retail launch goes. (I'm also working on a kickstarter blog / post mortem summing up how everything went and lessons learnt)

James

p.s. here is the Amazon link again if you want to leave a review :P
